Owning and running your own business is a lot of peoples dream, having that and actually doing it from home has got to be better, no traveling, low costs and effectively you have everything all under one roof, but what happens when you go about it the wrong way? One man in Decatur found out the hard way when neighbors complained about the goings on at his address.
A local official was by chance passing through the area, when he noticed that there was a selection of garden grills in a line around the side of the house, this was noted but nothing was done about it, a couple weeks later he was back in the area and this time noticed that there was price signs on each one, as there was more than one grill for sale it was taken for granted that there was a business being run from the premises and so the official decided to look into it.
As it turns out people were contacting the local press regarding the work going on, they were saying that old oil drums were being taken into the back yard at night and over the following days the sound and smell of acetylene and banging, before they turned up outside as garden grills together with prices etc.
Local officials decided that they were unable to issue a license for the type business that was being run there, as it would cause a disturbance to the neighborhood and so he would need to stop immediately.
This just goes to prove that not all businesses are practical for being run from home, it is recommended that advice is sought from the local authorities before even considering starting up a business, normally any business that involves engineering, transport and anything else that is going to cause a nuisance to neighbors will not be allowed and should not be considered.
Luckily for all concerned the matter above has been resolved, but if you are planning a new venture it is not worth upsetting anyone.
