Recently several people have contacted me about my freelance services. I am always thrilled when someone has found me and is interested in what I do. That is, when they actually want me to do something!
Some of the people that have contacted me seem to have no idea what they want. They will say that they really don’t know what they want me to do but that a freelancer doing work for them sounds interesting. Okay….
I will present them with some ideas and they usually get excited about them. They express their interest and ask how we can start. Then the next thing they tell me is that they really don’t have any money. Okay…
Are they looking to get something for free? I truly hate making things all about money but this is what I do for a living. I can’t help out every person that inquires about my work just out of kindness. It just makes me wonder why this person contacted me in the first place.
I bet this happens in other types of home businesses too. People want some kind of service from you, but are not willing or able to pay for that service. I admit I have helped some people just to be nice. However, nice does not pay the bills!

I get this a lot, too. Mostly from acquaintances who think it's just great that I write and edit for a living.
It's one thing when my husband wants me to spend a couple of hours poring over his Master's thesis, but quite another when acquaintance wants me to "look over" and "correct" a long essay, or some proposal. For free, of course.
Just because I work from home doesn't mean my time isn't money. Because it is.

At least I can understand how family and friends would ask. I think it is a little weird when a stranger does..
