How Do You Set Your Freelance Price?

When you are a contract worker, as most freelance writers, programmers and consultants are, it becomes important to set your freelance price. Your rate becomes a way for others to determine whether they will hire you. You can also evaluate offers from others, helping you determine whether or not you will take the job. Contract worker points out that:

It’s clear that an effective pricing strategy requires an awareness of
what other people are doing. In other words, it literally pays to know
the compensation standards set by the other players in your industry.
That and a willingness to objectively evaluate your offerings for
    better proposals.

This is a good point. You may have a freelance rate figured out, based on what others get, and the value you feel your work represents, but others may make proposals to you. And you have to decide whether you are going to take it, if it appears to be less than you feel you are worth.

And you have to decide whether you have enough work to say no.
